Police in Augusta, Maine are investigating following the discovery of a suspicious powder that was found in the mail yesterday.

According to WGME 13, Capitol Police responded to the fourth floor of the Cross building, part of the State House complex, just after 4pm on Tuesday after the suspicious powder was found during 'normal mail processing'.

Police then evacuated the area while they investigated and field tested the unknown substance. Capitol Police report that the substance tested negative for all tests.

No one at the Capitol was injured, though the investigation remains ongoing at this time. It's also unknown who the piece of mail may have been addressed to or where the piece of mail originated from.
