The popular website Gas Buddy, which helps you find the lowest price on gas near you says that they are expecting gas prices in the Northeast to start climbing by mid-March. The question is, how high will they go?

According to AAA, as of March 11, gas prices in Maine averaged $3.057 for regular unleaded. That's down from $3.073 a month ago. Remember, that's an average price, so you can likely find prices higher or lower than that.

But Gas Buddy says to hang on because they are predicting that gas prices will go up.

According to Maine Biz, they say that Gas Buddy is expected to increase in mid-March when the new tariffs are placed on Canada. It's predicted that gas prices will be 20 to 40 cents higher per gallon which works out to anywhere from a $3 to $6 increase.

Canada just so happens to provide Maine with more than 80% of our heating fuel and gasoline for our cars. If and when tariffs are imposed on Canada by the White House, the increase will more than likely be passed on to consumers.

So How Can You Save On Gas?

If you're looking to save on gas, Gas Buddy can point you in the right direction to find it cheap near you. One of the ways I save on gas is at Scrub-A-Dub in Portland and by the Maine Mall. If you are an unlimited car wash member, like me, you save 10 cents per gallon on gas. You have to get your car washed anyway and you can save yourself a buck or two when you fill up.
