Find Your Snow Shovel: Maine’s Getting Back-to-Back Storms

Maine sure can lull you into a false sense of an easy winter.

So far we have had a rainy, wet, chilly winter, and that's about it. But meteorologist Jason Nappi from News Center Maine says snow lovers will have a great couple of weeks. Jason knows that talking about big snow storms about a week away is just asking for trouble, but these two storms are worth mentioning.

There's a pattern that he can't ignore, and the ingredients for a big snowstorm are forming. You need...

...cold air, energy to get together at the right time, and plenty of moisture for a big snowstorm.

There are a couple of shots for just that. The first would be on Sunday, January 7, and then again on Wednesday, January 10. Again, it's early, but Jason says that right now it looks like everything is pointing at an all-snowstorm for all of Maine. You can thank some nice polar north wind for that.

Of course, as with all storms, any wiggling of that high-pressure system would mean that warmer air off the Gulf of Maine could be brought up the coast, and we could see rain and ice. It's apparently not a classic nor'easter, so it's not easy to track. Both storms could track inland. That means the mountains regardless should get a good amount of snow. So either way, skiers should be thrilled.

The second storm on January 10, Jason sees a lot of moisture and could be the bigger of the two potential snowstorms. There's lots of energy for that storm, and Jason's models show that it looks like we could finally see some white stuff. Maine is seriously lacking any snow right now. All of New England for that matter is lacking snow. Jason Nappi from News Center Maine created a map to show just how much snow we are missing.
