Maine Celtics Just One Win Away From First-Ever Championship

The Maine Celtics are just one win away from NBA G-League immortality.

The Celtics, the G-League affiliate of the NBA's Boston Celtics, hammered the Oklahoma City Blue 106-86 in Game 1 of the NBA G-League Finals. The win has Maine just one game away from becoming champions for the first time in its 14-year history.

It has been a remarkable year for Maine, who finished the regular season with the second-best record in the conference. The Celtics received a bye for the first round of the playoffs, followed by consecutive wins over Delaware Blue Coats and the Long Island Nets. This set them up with a matchup in the finals against the Blue. Maine would host Game 1 of the Best-of-Three finals on Monday night.

Maine controlled Game 1 from the tip, even building a 19-point lead after the 1st quarter. The Celtics never looked back, controlling the remainder of the game to finish with the comfortable win. It was quite the night in an absolutely rocking Portland Expo.

Maine had four player score in double figures, including JD Davison, who led the team with 23. The star also finished with 12 assists. It was quite the night for Davison, who continues to perform highly while dealing with an ankle injury. Both Drew Peterson and Neemias Queta finished with 20 points, and Jordan Walsh with 15.

The Celtics are now just one win away from bringing home the first-ever championship in franchise history, one that got its start back in 2009. Game 2 of the series will be played in Oklahoma City on Thursday, April 11, with an 8pm ET tip. The game will be shown on ESPNews.

If Maine does lose Game 2, it will set-up the third and final game of the series back at the Portland Expo on Monday, April 15. Tickets to that game will go on sale after Game 2, if necessary.

As wonderful as it would be to see Maine win the championship at home, a clinching win on the road would be perfectly acceptable, too.
