Watch Jade Bird, Maggie Rose Cover Aretha Franklin During Live in the Vineyard Late-Night Karaoke

Maggie Rose and Jade Bird turned late-night karaoke up a notch on Saturday night (Nov. 3), covering Aretha Franklin's "Respect" during a live-band karaoke session at Live in the Vineyard 2018. Readers can press play above to watch their performance.

Rose and Bird took the stage in front of event attendees -- and, as you might expect, put the rest of the night's karaoke performers to shame. The two tackled the first verse and the iconic "R-E-S-P-E-C-T!" bridge together, while Rose led the choruses with Bird providing harmonies. Rose also sang the second verse largely solo, and vamped as the band continued to play the well-known melody; Bird opted to show off her dance moves and chime in on a few lines here and there.

Perhaps Franklin's most iconic song, "Respect" was actually written and first released by Otis Redding, in 1965. Franklin put her own spin on the song two years later, and won two Grammys trophies with it. The song, a No. 1 Billboard hit, is part of the Grammy Hall of Fame and the National Recording Registry.

Live in the Vineyard ran Nov. 2-4, bringing contest winners to Napa Valley for a weekend of food and wine paired with live performances from artists such as Jewel, Haley & Michaels and more. The event takes place twice a year and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008.

Singer-songwriter Rose released a brand-new album, Change the Whole Thing, in late September; she also shared a documentary focused on the making of the project. British artist Bird, meanwhile, released an EP in 2017 and preparing her debut album, which will drop in 2019.
