
Arrest Made in Death of Central Maine Child
In May, we told you how a 4-year-old boy from Lewiston was killed in a shooting incident.
Today, we got word that an arrest has been made in the case.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, first responders had been called to a Pierce Street, Lewiston home at about 4:55 AM on May 17th.
When they arrived on the scene, they found a 4-year-old boy, identified as Jasper Smith, had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Smith was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Jasper Smith was pronounced dead just after 7 AM that morning.
Following an in-depth investigation into the incident, police have arrested 35-year-old Robert McCoy, the child's stepfather. He has been charged with Manslaughter and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
The deceased's mother, 27-year-old Mikayla Smith, was also arrested on unrelated charges.

Both McCoy and Smith were taken to the Androscoggin County Jail.
