According to WCSH 6, researchers at the University of Maine have found a way to turn wood into jet fuel.

The research is being done at the Forest Bioproducts Research Institute, located near the Old Town Mill.  Hemant Pendse, the director of U of M's Forest Bioproducts Research Institute, says the process they've bee working on since 2012 can turn any cellulose based wood product into crude oil.  From there, it can be made into gasoline, kerosene, even jet fuel.

While they are only able to create a ton fuel per day, once the process is perfected other companies could buy in and scale up the operation.
