According to an article on the WMTW website, a 20-year-old Maine man is dead following a Tuesday crash in Woolwich.

At about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, a Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted a vehicle driving erratically on River Road, which is also known as Route 128.  When the deputy tried to pull the vehicle, which was driven by Kaleb Halsey, of Bowdoinham, the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to evade the deputy.

As Halsey tried to pass a vehicle that had pulled off to the side of the road, he reportedly lost control of his vehicle.  He crashed into a granite fence and a telephone.  Halsey was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Initially, Halsey was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick but was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Sadly, he passed away from his injuries on Wednesday morning.

The chase lasted a total of 27 seconds and covered about a half mile.

Our thoughts are with Kaleb Halsey's friends and family during this difficult time.

According to the Joe Bornstein website, there were 171 traffic fatalities in Maine in 2024.  It appears that 2025 could end up being equally deadly.
