Just like that, another mid-coast Maine fast food restaurant closes. This time it's the KFC, on Route 1 in Rockport, just over the townline from Rockland.

According to a report by the Village Soup, employees were notified the evening before the closure took place on February 1st. It's speculated that staffing shortages lead to the closing of what once was a KFC/Taco Bell combo restaurant. By all accounts a popular place for local businesses, and the Pen-Bay Hospital which is near by.

As is stands now, the mid-coast area of Rockland, Rockport, and Camden are down to just one fast food chain choice....McDonalds.

Within he past several years, the area has seen the lost of Burger King most recently, prior to that the loss of Taco bell, from the combo of KFC/Taco Bell, they have also lost a Tim Hortons, and a Wendys in recent years.

There is still a seasonal Dairy Queen and a few subways in the area, but as far as full service chain fast food places the scene is looking pretty grim with nothing new on the horizon anytime soon.

On the flip side, there are many local small places that serve lunch but none outside of McDonalds that have a drive-thru. A sign of the times...perhaps, but it's always sad to loose option. At least there is always the option for a road trip to Western Ave in Augusta...for now.
