From a story on MSN...

A young California girl is probably going to be grounded for life following a prank she pulled on her mother on Saturday (January 11th) evening.

At around 5 PM the California Highway Patrol received a report of a young girl in the back of a car holding up a sign that read, “HELP ME SHE’S NOT MY MOM!! Help!!”

When the highway patrol pulled the vehicle over, they found that the girl was with her mother and that she thought it would be a fun prank.  Seeing that there was no foul play, they allowed the mother and daughter to continue on their way.

In all, six CHIP units (including a K9 unit) were assigned to the call.  Even though everything turned out okay in the end, the big concern is that those officers were diverted from legitimate calls to deal with a hoax.

On the California Highway Patrol Facebook page, many people have called for charges or fines on both the mom and the child.

Without knowing how old the girl is, or the entire situation, I don't think we can blame her or her mother.  But, it should serve as a warning to all of us: teach your children well and keep an eye on them as best you can.
