The pandemic hit businesses in Maine hard. Even giant businesses had to make changed they never expected to Make. Maine's L.L. Bean flagship store hadn't had locks on its doors since 1951, but that all changed as COVID-19 took its toll on our way of life up here.

The store had to shit, modify and adapt as so many other New England businesses did. Just over a year ago, locks were installed on the doors and the building shut down temporarily. After the all-out closure, the store eventually reopened with limited hours, diverting from its decades-old 'around the clock' operation.

According to News Center Maine, L.L. Bean's massive flagship store in the heart of Freeport will begin operating 24-hours-a-day again starting this Monday. Also beginning Monday, the Home & Bike and Boat & Ski stores will extend their hours from 7 AM to 10 PM.

Shawn Gorman, Executive Chairman at L.L. Bean said,

My great-grandfather opened our Flagship Store more than 100 years ago and, in 1951, he implemented our signature 24-hour operating model as a way to accommodate sportsmen and women who would drive through Freeport in the middle of the night to ensure an early start the next morning. Returning to 24-hour service, extending hours, and opening new stores all mark milestones for our organization and communities as we look toward a post-pandemic era and see a continued interest in the outdoors.
