Legendary NFL Announcer Pat Summerall Has Died

Pat Summerall, the voice of the NFL in the 1970s and 1980s and who announced 16 Super Bowls, died Tuesday, April 16. He was 82.

Summerall died in his room at Dallas' Zale Lipshy Hospital, where he was recovering from surgery for a broken hip.

Many did not realize that Summerall was an accomplished placekicker who scored more than 500 points in the NFL. He played from 1952 to 1961 for the Chicago Cardinals and New York Giants.

As a broadcaster he was teamed with former NFL coach John Madden for 22 years. He called games for CBS, Fox and ESPN.
