Shooting Outside Lewiston Bar Leaves One Dead, One Injured

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, a shooting outside a bar on Sabattus Street in Lewiston early Wednesday morning has left one man dead and a woman injured.

Lewiston police received multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance and shots fired outside the tavern at 69 Sabattus Street shortly before 1 AM on Wednesday (September 2nd).

Officers arriving at the scene found an adult male and female suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to Central Maine Medical Center.  The male was pronounced dead, while the female was treated for her injuries and later released.

The Lewiston Police Department has asked the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South to assist with the investigation. Police say the adult male responsible for firing the shots has been identified and is cooperating with investigators.

The deceased man was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will determine the cause and manner of death. His identity is being withheld pending the autopsy and notification of next of kin.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and say there is no known danger to the public.
