Typically when comedians hit the road, fans know about their dates months in advance. That's just how touring and routing work in the business. But every so often, a performer will fall in love with a certain city and in an effort to get there and enjoy its offerings, will schedule a last-minute, one-night-only performance as an "excuse" to make a trip out of it. Enter comedian Louis C.K..

Louis C.K. announced via his website that he'd be traveling to Portland, Maine on Saturday, August 20, to perform a pop-up show at Merrill Auditorium that night. Louis C.K. has long been a fan of Portland, steering the routing of several of his recent tours through the city. He had this to say about Portland through email:

"One of my favorite places in the world. It’s a town you can see almost all of at once. There’s a very nice art store, there’s that natural food co-op where they sell delicious healthy things and the staff is always friendly. Portland has great restaurants. And just very chill people. And its in Maine, and it’s nothing like the rest of Maine, or really anywhere else."

Louis C.K. just finished developing, co-writing, financing, and releasing a new movie that takes place in Maine. The movie is titled 'Fourth of July', and follows a mild-mannered aspiring jazz musician who travels to Maine over a holiday weekend to confront his hardened, Boston-bred family. He desperately wants to be shown love and respect, and faces some large challenges with a dysfunctional family that shows love and respect in a very peculiar (and frankly, very New England) way.
