Luke Bryan is one of five nominees for Entertainer of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards, and while the country star calls the nod a "huge honor," he admits that something's missing in that category's nominees list: a woman. The country superstar shared his thoughts on the issue with BuzzFeed, during a recent profile interview.

“It’s something the country music community has taken note of, that women artists aren’t being truly recognized like they need to, and it’s something on everybody’s radar," Bryan says. The "Most People are Good" singer adds that it's important for stars such as ACM Awards host Reba McEntire to speak out about the lack of female representation, referencing McEntire's comments about the issue on the day nominees were announced.

"I think Reba has earned the right to voice her opinion on matters like that. Somebody like Reba has to stand up and say to the Academy of Country Music and all forms of country music award shows [that it's a problem]," says Bryan, adding that McEntire is one of many who can, and should, voice their opinions on the matter. "There’s so many women out there that should feel the right to speak up.”

Despite the lack of female competition for Entertainer of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards, Bryan is excited about his nod in the category. He says that he feels as though he's put in the time to earn the trophy this year.

“I always have to go into it with the mindset -- I’ve worked hard, I’ve done my due diligence, I should win," Bryan tells BuzzFeed, adding that even with two wins in the category (2013 and 2015), the nomination is an honor in itself.

"Going in nominated for Entertainer [of the Year] is just a huge honor, so I always go in just ready to have fun, enjoy the show, and just make the most of the night," he admits. At the end of the day, Bryan adds, he's just ready to have a good time: "[I] enjoy being in Vegas with friends. I always somehow end up at a blackjack table with some other country music buddies of mine," he shares, "so that’s always fun too.”

The 2019 ACM Awards are set to take place in Las Vegas, Nev., on April 7, and air live on CBS beginning at 8PM ET. The ceremony will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
