Everything You Need to Know About Sunday’s Backpack Giveaways in Augusta & Waterville, Maine

If you are a parent, you know that back-to-school shopping is not cheap.

To fully prepare your kids for school, they will probably need new clothes, new shoes, a lunchbox, a haircut, and a backpack filled with supplies.

Well, thanks to some amazingly generous people, hundreds of Central Maine kids won’t have to worry about a backpack or school supplies.

The Greater Augusta Back to School Program’s 8^th annual backpack giveaway event is Sunday, August 18.

As it has been for the last few years, the event will be held at the Augusta Civic Center, and will get started at 1 p.m.

All you have to do is show up with your child in order to get a grade-appropriate backpack that is filled with supplies.

Additionally, there will be someone giving free haircuts to those who need them.

Plus, there’ll be music, martial arts demonstrations, and some other giveaways.

According to a post on the group’s Facebook page, there will be a similar event held in the banquet room at the Waterville Elks Lodge.  Just like the Augusta giveaway event, the Waterville event will take place between 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
