Maine lighthouse day will return again this year. This Saturday, September 9 dozens of lighthouses will open their doors to the public.

The event was started in 2009 by the United States Coast Guard, Maine Office of Tourism and the American Lighthouse Foundation. About 18,000 visitors take advantage of the day.

Maine has more lighthouses than any other state and several will be open for the event: Seguin Island, Squirrel Point, Kennebec River Range lights, Doubling Point, Burnt Island, Pemaquid Point, and Monhegan Island.

Some lighthouses offer tours on a regular bases but others are open for this one day only giving you your only chance visit.
