Maine Man Arrested For Stealing About $25,000 in Merchandise From Mall Store
Unless the item stolen was a vehicle, we normally don't hear about people being accused of stealing things that cost in the tens-of-thousands of dollars. When we do hear stories of people stealing items that have a value in the tens-of-thousands of dollars, the theft normally did not happen at a comic book store.
However, that is exactly what one man from Windham stands accused of!
According to an article on the WMTW website, South Portland police were called to Newbury Comics store at the Maine Mall on August 22nd after a report of shoplifting. In the weeks that followed, they worked closely with staff to track down other thefts connected to the same person.
Officers eventually identified the suspect as a 33-year-old man from Windham. A tip from the public and help from local pawn shops led to his arrest.
During questioning, police say the man admitted to stealing more than 500 items over the last year and a half. Most of the items were vinyl records, but the total value of what was stolen was more than $25,000.
His name has not been released, but he has been charged with theft.
*NOTE - All suspects are considered innocent until being found guilty in a court of law
Police in South Portland say the case is still under investigation.
