Maine Mother Pleads Guilty After 1-Year-Old Son Overdoses, Dies From Fentanyl in The Home

A Maine mother will server less than four years in prison after she pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge following the death of her infant son, Jaden Raymond, back in March of 2022.

According to WGME 13, Mariah Dobbins, 29 of Easton, Maine, a small town in Aroostook County, says that she was using and in possession of methamphetamines in her home at the time her child overdosed and died, however she and her family claim the drugs her baby ingested were not hers, and left there by somebody else.

Leanne Robbin, Assistant Attorney General, said in part in a court document,

“The level of fentanyl found in Jaden’s blood and gastric contents was higher than that found in adult overdose deaths. We can only conclude that he was ingesting fentanyl powder by the handful.”

WGME reports that Dobbins was sentenced to 12 years in prison but had 8 of those years suspended meaning she will serve less than 4 years behind bars. Following her release after 4 years in prison, Dobbins will be on probation. If at any point Dobbins violates her conditions of release, she will automatically be forced to serve the remaining 8 years behind bars.
