According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, an arrest has been made in the death of a 22-month-old child from Owls Head, Maine.

A May 30 press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety explained that at about 7:30 p.m. on May 29, first responders responded to a report that a toddler was having a medical issue at the Walmart in Thomaston.  When they arrived on scene, they discovered the child was not breathing.

The child, later identified as Quayshawn Wilson, was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The press release goes on to say:

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit was called and responded to investigate which is protocol in all child deaths in Maine.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy on Thursday, May 30, and ruled the cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner of death a homicide.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, police were granted an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Aziayh Scott of Owls Head.  Scott was originally from Louisiana and had recently moved to Maine.

He has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the killing.

When they visited the couple's Owls Head residence, they learned that Scott and the child's mother had returned to Louisiana.  Authorities in Maine worked with police in Louisiana.  Scott was arrested by New Orleans police in Wednesday, June 5.

The press release goes on to say:

Scott was taken to Orleans Parish Prison in New Orleans and the process to extradite Scott back to Maine for the charge of Manslaughter will now begin.

Our thoughts are with the family of Quayshawn Wilson.
