Maine Parents Need To Keep An Eye Out For IRS Letter 6419
As you sort through that stack of YOU'VE BEEN PRE-APPROVED credit card applications and utility bills, you are going to want to keep an eye out from a letter from the Internal Revenue Service.
According to WMTW, "Letter 6419" is from the IRS and it pertains to the child income tax credit. Reportedly, the letter shows what advance payments you got in 2021 and the number of children used to determine the payments. You will need to use the information in the letter to file your 2021 taxes - so don't lose it!
Normally, the child tax credit is calculated when you file your federal tax return. But, in 2021, President Biden's American Rescue Plan Act provided parents in Maine (and across the country) an additional chunk of cash for each child they have.
About 36 million American families can expect to receive one of the letters. The letter could arrive anytime between now and the end of January.
Does anyone else wonder why they couldn't have given it a normal name? Calling it "Letter 6419" makes it sound like it is some kind of crazy government plot that involves spies and enemy nations. Instead, it is just the document you need to correctly file your taxes.
