Maine is a state with so much to offer.

Our state has beaches, lush forests, and cool small towns filled with unique shops and restaurants.  We also have some of the best state parks in the nation.

Our state parks offer visitors the opportunity to camp, hike, hang out on the beach, and go boating in Maine's great outdoors.  These parks give people a chance to get away from their lives and spend quality time with their families.

As a result, it should not surprise us that millions of people visit Maine's parks each year.

How Many People Visited Maine State Parks in 2024?

The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry's Bureau of Parks and Lands has released 2024 state park visitor data.

According to the Bureau of Parks, 3,120,000 people visited Maine's state parks in 2024.  Of those, 2.83 million people made day trips to the parks and 288,000 people spent at least one night camping in the parks.

This 3.12 million visitor figure marks a 6.5% increase over visitorship in 2023.

This figure comes close to the record number of state park visitors that Maine saw in 2021.  During the summer of 2021, as many people's lives were getting back to normal following the pandemic, Maine's state parks saw a record 3.3 million visitors.  Three million of those visitors were there for the day and about 315,000 were there to camp at the parks.
