Maine went from 29th to 22nd in the latest annual clean energy ranking of U.S. states. Maine came in 22nd in the latest scoring from clean energy sector consultancy CleanEdge.

Maine led the nation in its adoption of smart electricity meters installations, which it estimated at 97.5 percent of all power customers.

Maine also ranked fifth in the country of power generation in the state coming from renewable sources of wind power, hydro power, geothermal and biomass. In 2014, close to sixty percent of Maine's power came from renewable sources.
