Operation ‘Stand Down’ in October is held in October is a program by the VA to help homeless vets get the help they need to start a new life in a home of their own.

Donations for the project are always welcome, anything that will help homeless vets set up their new home.

Sheryl Briggs is pitching in this year by knitting slippers for veterans. She says she will knit 75 pairs pf slippers for the annual October event. So far she has 20 pairs. The idea of hand-knitted slippers came easy for Briggs since she is seamstress and belongs to knitting club.

According to sunjournal.com, the knitted slippers will fit nicely in the care packages given to homeless vets because they are light, don’t take up much space and after all, why not slippers for vets?

Thousands of veterans and their families have received assistance through the Stand Down event, which provides counseling and substance abuse referrals, employment and training, health care, housing and legal services, wellness activities and a career fair.
