The Maine State Lottery sent out a pamphlet to its 1,300 retailers, saying it plans to rename its scratch tickets, with the name 'kwikies.' The change in the name isn't sitting well with some convenience store owners.David Welch, the owner of the Village Market in Fairfield, tells the Bangor Daily News, 'I thought that's going to be real uncomfortable for my girls behind the register to have guys come in and say 'Hey, give me a Kwikie.' Welch adds that his cashiers are very upset about it.

Gerry Reid, director of the Maine Bureau Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, said it's not the state's intent to be provocative. Reid adds that the bureau has been active for the past three to four months in trying to brand a name that encompasses all of it's instant scratch tickets. They went through 50 or 60 names before deciding in kwikies.

The name hasn't been officially implemented. The name change may come in a month or more after public opinion is weighed. Reid adds, after all is said and done, the lottery may not use the name at all.

What do you think? Does the name 'kwikie' offend you? Do you think this is much to do about nothing?
