Maine State Police Investigating Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Deer
The Maine State Police are investigating a Tuesday evening crash that started with one vehicle striking a deer on the Maine Turnpike.
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moos, at about 7 PM on Tuesday, the Maine State Police responded to a crash near mile marker 13 on the southbound side of the highway.
The press release goes on today:
The initial investigation indicates that the driver of a red Mitsubishi Mirage struck a deer in the center lane and the vehicle became disabled. The driver exited the vehicle and moved to a safe location off the roadway, as the vehicle could not be moved from its position. Shortly after, a commercial vehicle carrying fuel crested the hill behind the crash scene and was unable to stop in time. The truck struck the disabled Mitsubishi, causing it to be pushed into the median. The impact also caused the commercial truck to veer to the right and collide with a BMW crossover vehicle. Both the truck and BMW came to rest off the right side of the roadway.
Fortunately, the only injuries to the occupants of the vehicles were minor. They were so minor, in fact, that no one needed to be transported to the hospital.
The deer, however, did not survive.
The crash did require that the southbound side of the road was down to one lane for just over an hour as the scene was being cleaned up.
