A Maine middle school teacher has been accepted into a new program that will put her through the same training as NASA astronauts.

According to WMTW, Karen Iuzzolino-Paquin, a teacher at Saint John's Catholic School in Brunswick, has been accepted into the Teachers In Space Human Flight Program.

In the program, participating teachers will be taken on a microgravity flight, which simulates the "weightlessness" that astronauts experience on real space flights.  The teachers will then be able to collect and compare heart rate data, ECG, blood oxygen and other vital signs.

The idea is that, following the flight, she will be better prepared to teach her kids about space travel and help them prepare flight ready experiments.

Her acceptance is quite the honor.  She is one of only five teachers accepted into the program.  The other four teachers are from New York, New Jersey, and Texas.

There is now word on when her flight will take place.
