According to WMTW, a waterspout was spotted touching down off the coast of Kennebunkport Thursday afternoon during a passing storm. The spout was spotted off the shores of Cape Porpoise. Waterspouts, though not uncommon, are certainly not something that we see here in Maine very frequently.

Central Mainers may remember years ago when a waterspout touched down on Cobbossee Lake and then made landfall causing a fairly significant amount of damage. What is a waterspout? Some are connected to a cumulus congestus cloud, some to a cumuliform cloud and some to a cumulonimbus cloud.
