Maine Could See Severe Thunderstorms on Tuesday Afternoon & Evening
If you are not a fan of the steamy weather we have been having over the last few days, we have some good news. It is going to cool down on Tuesday afternoon and evening, but you may not be a big fan of how it is going to cool down.
According to New England meteorologists, much of Maine is likely to see severe thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
According to WMTW, in addition to thunder and lightning, these storms could bring heavy rain and damaging winds to affected areas. It is possible that some parts of Central Maine could see an inch of rainfall in a short amount of time.
Projected storm hotspots include Augusta, Winthrop, Rangeley, and Portland.
Weather.com is forecasting a chance of severe thunderstorms beginning at 3:45 p.m. in the Augusta area. These storms are expected to stick with us through 6 p.m.
Weather.com is predicting that the Portland area could see thunderstorms as early as 5 p.m.
The WMTW article explains that after the sun goes down, the threat of storms will diminish significantly.
As is always the case when severe weather is forecasted for your area, you should take appropriate precautions. Make sure your vehicle windows are rolled up, bring small items (plastic furniture, kids' toys, etc) inside, and make sure your devices are charged.
