There is a chance that Maine's "Chickadee Check-Off" program could vanish from Maine tax forms unless Mainers support it. The tax form check-off has been part of the Maine tax form for 30 years. The money supports the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Endangered and Nongame Wildlife Fund.

When you check the box for the “Chickadee Check-Off” you make charitable contributions on you tax form to support the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Endangered and Nongame Wildlife Fund. In its best year happened 1985, the “Chickadee Check-Off” raised $129,000. Last year it was down to $37,000.  If contributions drop below the $25,000, the “Chickadee Check-Off” will be gone from tax forms. Here is the “magic” of your donation. For every $1 raised through the program, Maine receives an additional $3 in federal matching funding to help support the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's Endangered and Nongame Wildlife Fund.
