Massachusetts Welcomes Two New Millionaires
As a kid growing up in rural Aroostook County, I was always amazed when the Megabucks jackpot hit $1 million.
I thought the idea that someone who paid a dollar to play a game could potentially end up being a millionaire. My dad bought a single ticket each week, and I made a point of cheering him on as he picked his numbers.
Back then, I never could have imagined that we would see multi-state games that include the majority of the nation reaching jackpots in excess of a billion dollars. These days, though, it happens quite frequently.
In January 2023, someone who purchased a ticket in Maine took a Mega Millions jackpot of over $1.2 billion.
And, as of April 4, the Powerball jackpot is $1.23 billion.
No one purchased a ticket with the jackpot winning numbers for the April 3 drawing.
The next Powerball drawing will be on Saturday, April 6. As the frenzy about this massive jackpot builds, there is a chance that we could see that jackpot increase even more before the drawing.
Even though no one won the Powerball jackpot in Wednesday's drawing, a series of smaller prizes were given out.
Actually, some of the prizes won weren't all that small. According to the Powerball website, nine tickets were sold worth $1 million.
It appears that two of those tickets were sold in New England. The website shows that two tickets matching five of the drawn numbers were sold in Massachusetts. At this point, there is no word on exactly where in Massachusetts the tickets were sold.
In addition to the five million dollar tickets, there were dozens of others sold that could be worth anywhere from a few bucks to $500,000.
Last night's winning numbers were 11-38-41-62-65 PB: 15
