According to an article on the WMTW website, authorities have released the identity of a man who died following a Thursday afternoon fire in Augusta.

The article explains that officials say he was flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland with critical burns after a fire on Riverside Drive Thursday afternoon. On Friday, they confirmed he did not survive.

Augusta Fire Department was called to the home around 2:15 OM for a reported basement fire.  The homeowner believed the fire had already gone out, but crews found smoke still inside and 66-year-old Michael Keith suffering from burns.

Firefighters knocked down the remaining fire and Keith was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center before being flown to Portland.

According to the Maine Fire Marshal's Office, the fire started in the basement. Investigators say ignitable liquids were accidentally set off near the chimney cleanout door.

Our thoughts are with Mr. Keith's family and friends during this difficult time.
