Midland turn the intensity of love into welcomed pain on their new song, "Put the Hurt on Me."

The trio of Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson stay in the vein of traditional country on the new track, the opening melody of guitar and pedal steel whisking the listener off to a different era. The lyrics find them fully embracing a passionate love, utilizing play on words and imagery to convey the feeling. Their soothing harmonies capture the romantic element of the song, welcoming the wash of heartache and the burn of "sweet poison."

"Kill me softly, baby, with your kiss / If I go, I wanna go like this / Come and be as cool as you can be / Yeah, baby, put the hurt on me," they croon in the chorus.

Co-written with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, "Put the Hurt on Me" is the second release (following lead single "Mr. Lonely") off the band's forthcoming sophomore album Let it Rolldue out Aug. 23.

“Everything we’ve learned out on the road touring On the Rocks is all right here on this album,” Wystrach describes in a press release.

“These songs are deeply personal and from the heart.” “We want to keep things fresh and real,” adds Duddy. “The beauty of being in Dripping Springs and spending so much time on the road, we don’t get caught up in what’s trending. We’re able to follow our hearts (and our livers) to where we think country is the best.”

The band is scheduled for a tour named after the album in late 2019 that brings them to Australia for performances at Country 2 Country Festival, as well as two opening slots for Tim McGraw. The trek kicks off Sept. 17 in New York.
