Maine State Police Investigating ‘Suspicious’ Deaths
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the Maine State Police are in the process of investigating two suspicious deaths in Milford.
The press release says, in part:
On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at approximately 5:00 pm, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Milford for a well-being check. Upon arrival, two deceased individuals were discovered and the deaths are considered suspicious
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. Autopsies will be done to determine the cause and manner of death.
The press release says that the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North was called in to help the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
The press release goes on to say that the authorities do not believe there is any threat to the public.
The investigation into the incident continues, and more details will be provided at a later time.
Milford is a small town in Maine located near Bangor in Maine's Penobscot County. As of 2020, the town had a population of just over 3,000. Back in the late 1800s, Milford was a mill town and home to one of the largest lumber mills in the state.
The town is the location of an Emera power plant. The Bodwell Water Power Company plant is a hydroelectric station located on the Penobscot River. The powerplant dates back to 1905.
Milford is also home to the Milford Air Force Auxiliary Field, which was in use during World War II.
