If you often purchase pre-packaged produce, there is a new recall you need to be aware of.

According to an article on the Fox News site, there is a recall on Harvest NYC brand pre-packaged Enoki mushrooms due to a concern about Listeria contamination.

According to a notice from the FDA, the mushrooms are being recalled because they may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.  A post on the FDA website explains that it is a bacteria that can make people sick through an illness called listeriosis.  It can even be fatal in the young and those who are already ill.

Depending on the severity of the illness, it can cause fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and even convulsions.

So far, no one has reported being ill because of the mushrooms.

The recalled mushrooms were distributed by Hofood99 Inc.  The mushrooms were shipped to grocery stores nationwide.  The potentially contaminated mushrooms come in a green plastic package with the barcode 6975730520101 on the back label.

If you have any of the recalled mushrooms, you should either destroy them or return them to the store where they were purchased to get a refund.
