3 Can’t-Miss Attractions at This Year’s Skowhegan State Fair
Believe it or not, the Skowhegan State Fair has been going strong for over 200 years.
The first event that would eventually be known as the Skowhegan State Fair was held in January of 1819. Yes, that means the 2026 edition of the fair is the 207th! That means the Skowhegan State Fair is not just the oldest fair in Maine, it is one of the oldest fairs in the nation.
3 Things You Must Experience at the 2026 Skowhegan State Fair
The Demolition Derbies – There really is nothing like seeing old cars crash into each other. It’s like a more intense version of bumper cars. This year’s fair will feature three nights of demo derbies. They will be on Friday, August 14th, Monday, August 17th, and Friday, August 21st. They get kicked off at 7 PM.
The Live Music – One of the really great things about the Skowhegan State Fair is the number of bands that perform at the fair each year. Musical highlights at this year’s fair include the Somerset Outlaws, The Band Roxx, Night Train, Mike Roderique, and Six Wayz to Sunday. Check out the full entertainment schedule HERE
Ride Bracelets Every Day – The midway at the Skowhegan State Fair is presented by Smokey’s Greater Shows. That means the midway will be filled with amazing rides. As always, there will be a mix of kiddie rides and stuff for the bigger kids. Unlike some Maine fairs, the Skowhegan State Fair features unlimited ride bracelets every single day of the fair. Depending on the day, they cost between $20 and $30.
This year’s fair runs from Thursday, August 13th, through Saturday, August 22nd. Get more details about the fair from the Skowhegan State Fair website.
