My Open Apology To Augusta Police Department & Maine Dispatchers
For most of my life, I have been a big supporter of our law enforcement. Given what they have had to endure over the last few years, this has become even more so.
Because of this, I feel even worse about wasting their time over the weekend.
Not once, but TWICE, I managed to butt dial emergency services over the long weekend. I still can't believe this happened. I am so embarrassed!
The first time was on Sunday. I was at Walmart with my kids. We were taking a look at some TVs and I heard someone asking what the emergency was. I sushed the kids and listened a little closer. I heard someone speaking, but by the time I had pulled my phone out of my pocket, the screen on my phone was black. I just assumed it was something playing on one of the TVs. Nope!
A few minutes, and a couple of electronics department aisles, later my phone rang. It was a restricted number. But, because I never know if someone is calling me about business, I always pick up my phone. It was an officer from the Augusta Police Department checking to make sure everything was okay. I explained that it must have been a butt dial.
Then, on Monday afternoon, I was getting ready to leave work when I heard my phone making a screeching noise. This time, I caught it in the middle of dialing. I stopped it... Not soon enough, though. A minute or so later, I got another call from APD. Again, I explained what happened and apologized.
I am not 100% sure why my phone made those calls, but I believe it was because it "woke up" in my pocket and I somehow tapped the EMERGENCY CALL button that appears on the unlock screen.
Regardless, I feel awful because I know what I big time waster that is for our police and dispatchers.
