Thursday Evening Prayer Service to be Held in Capitol Park in Augusta, Maine
The National Day of Prayer is a day when the citizens of the United States, regardless of their faith, are asked to pray for the nation, its leaders, and the population.
It is held on the first Thursday of May. In 2026, that day is May 7th.
In recognition of the National Day of Prayer, events will be held around the country. Some of the events held in Maine include a gathering at the Maine State Capitol Hall of Flags, one at the Vienna Baptist Church, and an event at the Centerpoint Community Church in Waterville.
The Capitol Park Event in Augusta
One of the larger events celebrating the National Day of Prayer will be an event at Capitol Park in Augusta. For those who are unfamiliar, that is the park across State Street from the Maine State House.
This event, put on by the Christian Civic League of Maine, will take place between 6 PM and 8 PM. All will be welcome, however, organizers do remind attendees that this is not a political event. It is a prayer event. They stress that the purpose of the event, like all National Day of Prayer events, is to pray for the nation. Because of that, they are asking that people not bring political signs.
