Maine State Police Make Arrest in Killing of a Skowhegan Woman

On Friday afternoon, we learned that the Maine State Police were in the process of investigating the death of a woman in Skowhegan.

We now have additional details in the case.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, investigators from the Maine State Police have arrested 55-year-old Dane Burke, of Skowhegan, for the killing of 46-year-old Nicole Jackson.

Burke is reportedly the boyfriend of Jackson.

The press release says, in part:

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta has ruled the death of a woman in Skowhegan a homicide following an autopsy conducted as part of an ongoing Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central investigation. The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Nicole Jackson of Skowhegan. The autopsy determined the cause of death to be blunt force and sharp force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

The vehicle was located around 8 AM Saturday in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Police there tried to stop it, but the driver didn’t pull over, kicking off a pursuit. Massachusetts State Police joined in as the chase crossed into New Hampshire.

That pursuit came to an end in Dunbarton, New Hampshire, when the vehicle left the road and slammed into a tree on Route 13, just north of Barnard Road.

After the crash, Burke barricaded himself inside the vehicle. New Hampshire State Police SWAT eventually responded and took him into custody around 10:30 a.m.

Burke was taken to Concord Hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. He was arrested on a Maine murder warrant and will remain in New Hampshire custody for now. Once released from the hospital, he’ll be transported to a New Hampshire jail while awaiting his return to Maine.
