When Will the Augusta, Maine, Ocean State Job Lot Store Open?

Let’s face it, no matter how much money you make, you are always going to try to save a few dollars when you can.

That’s one of the reasons why discount stores continue to gain in popularity.

Here in Central Maine, we have a wide variety of discount stores, at different price points, to choose from.  We have Dollar Stores, Dollar Generals, Reny’s, Mardens, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and Marshalls.  Additionally, we have the locally owned Caswell’s Liquidation Center.

Soon, we’ll have another discount store.

Back in August, we learned that Augusta was going to be getting an Ocean State Job Lot.

The popular Rhode Island-based chain would be taking over a 34,000-square-foot retail space at Whitten Road’s Turnpike Mall.  The space, which had previously been home to a Christmas Tree Shops location, would become Ocean State Job Lot’s first Central Maine location.

What is Ocean State Job Lot?

As the name implies, the retailer is based in Rhode Island and sells lots of items purchased from other stores at a discount.

Founded in 1977, Ocean State Job Lot currently has 153 stores across New England, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey.  The chain employs about 5,600 people.

As is often the case with lot stores, you never know what you are going to find during a visit.  You’ll find everything from clothing to toys to electronics to appliances.

Most stores also stock a variety of seasonal items, from beach chairs and umbrellas in the spring & summer to back-to-school supplies in late summer, winter coats in the fall & winter, and holiday decorations.

When I lived in New Hampshire, I used to plan frequent trips to the Ossipee location, because the turnover in merchandise was fast.  You never knew what kind of great deals you were going to find.

The retailer currently has Maine locations in Biddeford, Falmouth, Rockland, Oxford, Belfast, Sanford, and Bangor.

When Will the Augusta Ocean State Job Lots Location Open?

When the store was first announced, we had been told that it would be opening this fall.  As we had not really heard much since the store was announced, I decided to call the Ocean State Job Lot corporate office phone number.  A very nice woman from the customer service department explained to me that the projected opening date for the Augusta location was Monday, November 25^th, 2024.  So, the store would be opening a few days before Thanksgiving.  Of course, unforeseen issues could postpone that opening date.
