This Iconic Maine Amusement Park Ride Has Been Thrilling Visitors For Nearly 50 Years
Even though we do not have the massive amusement parks that you'll find in Florida, California, or Texas, Maine does have its fair share of great amusement parks, even if they are only open for a few months out of the year.
One of the most iconic amusement parks in all of New England is Old Orchard Beach's Palace Playland. Like something you'd see in a movie, the amusement park is situated just steps away from that beautiful sandy beach. In operation for over a century, Palace Playland has welcomed millions of guests over the decades.
Like any good amusement park, the owners are always updating rides and making changes. For example, in 2025, they plan to add two new rides. You can read more about those HERE.
Some of the park's attractions have really stood the test of time, though. Some are even closing in on the half-century mark.
According to the Coasterpedia website, the Super Star will celebrate its 46th season in 2025.
The park's website describes the ride as:
Super Star consists of three arms radiating from a central column. At the end of each arm is a Star holding seven gondolas. When the ride begins the central column spins one way, while the Stars at the end of each arm are raised in the air and rotate the other way.

What's the oldest amusement park thrill ride in Maine? As far as we can tell, that honor goes to Funtown USA's Astrosphere.
