According to WABI, the Maine Pond Classic took place this weekend as they celebrated its 10th year in a row.

The highlight of this year's event was the appearance of Olympian Marc Pelchat, a speed skater who participated in the 1998 and 2002 Olympic Games.  Pelchat was there playing on his younger cousin's team.

Due to the amount of snow, most parts of Maine received tournament games originally set to begin Friday evening didn't get underway until early Saturday morning on Snow Pond in Sidney. This year's tournament included eight ice rinks that hosted sixty-eight teams in seven different divisions, a beer garden, a VIP tent area, several fire pits for warmth, and even a café.

Unfamiliar with The Maine Pond Hockey Classic?

This neat tournament brings hockey players to Central Maine from all over in the hope of having fun and fundraising for Maine youth at the same time. All proceeds from the event went to the Alfond Youth & Community Center and the Boys & Girls Club, and the YMCA of the Greater Waterville.

Snow Pond was plowed to make the eight ice rinks needed for the tournament, plus enough room for a beer garden, VIP tent area, and café.

If you missed the tournament this year but want to make sure you're signed up for next year, teams can sign up for the 2023 Maine Pond Hockey Classic at
