Despite the state’s sparse population, Maine has always been lucky enough to host at least a few major touring musical acts each year.  Over the last decade, or so, this has really ramped up.  While we may not see all that many top 40 or hip hop acts, we get a visit from nearly every major country and rock tour each year.

One of the big reasons for this is the number of amazing performance venues we have in the state.  The Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor, the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, the Waterville Opera House, Aura in Portland.  Yes, we definitely have some amazing places to see a band, comedy show, or stage play.

What you may not realize is that one of the best amphitheaters in the United States is right here in Central Maine.

A true hidden gem of Central Maine, The Bowl in The Pines Amphitheater sits right on the shore of Messalonskee Lake in Sidney, Maine.

In recent years, the venue has gone through about a million dollars in renovations and improvements.  These include improvements to the electrical system, ADA-compliant bathrooms, a new concessions area, and more.

In 2024, the venue welcomed some amazing performers like Elle King and Jo Dee Messina.  In addition to the concerts, the bowl also hosted a September brewfest. While they have yet to announce any shows for the 2025 season, we can expect that it is going to be just as epic.

One of the magical things about seeing a show at the Bowl in The Pines Amphitheater is its location.  With the stage situated a very short walk from the lakeshore, there is a cool breeze always blowing through the venue.  So, thanks to nature’s air conditioning, concert-goers always stay cool.
