Sadly, over the last few years, we have seen a spike in the number of people in Central Maine dealing with homelessness.

While the unhoused of Central Maine have access to overnight warming shelters, they are left with limited options during the daytime.

That's one of the reasons that the members of Maine country hip-hop group the North Woods Outlaws stepped up to collect and distribute coats and other warm clothing to those in need.

For the last few months, they have been collecting winter clothing at various locations around the Augusta area. Now, they are ready for the giveaway event.

As in year's past, this year's event will take place at the south end of Mill Park in Augusta.  This year's event, the 6th annual giveaway, will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 11th.  It will run until 4 p.m. or until they run out of coats.

In addition to the giveaway, there will be a fire pit and food.

It is important to note that you do not need to be unhoused in order to benefit from the giveaway.  If you are having a hard time finding the money to purchase winter clothing for your family, you are more than welcome to stop by to grab coats for yourself and your children.

You can get additional details from the North Woods Outlaws Facebook page.
