No matter your opinion on the subject, both sides are fired up and ready to voice their argument on the debate about drag story hour. Of course, this has been something we've seen in the National spotlight for quite sometime, and now the disagreement has reached a fever pitch in the Elm City.

According to WABI TV 5, protesters and supporters alike gathered outside of the Children's Book Cellar in Waterville to voice their opinions on the business hosting a drag story hour. WABI reports that a man, dressed in drag, had been at the store reading to area children.

Supporters and protesters gathered on the sidewalk holding an array of flags and signs on Saturday. Though the store has done these drag story hours in the past, this has been the first on since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The owner of the Children's Book Cellar told reporters that she has since received dozens of 'nasty' emails asking her not to host the events anymore.

A protestor, demonstrating against drag story hour, told WABI in part;

“I want to see people stop sexualizing kids, I want kids to be left alone. Let kids be kids. When I was 10 or 11 years old, I wasn’t thinking about what gender I was, or sex or anything like that. I was, you know, the, what happened to when the opposite sex had cooties. You know, when we went through that phase, we all kids just be kids. That’s the that’s the goal. I want.”

Waterville Mayor, Jay Coelho, told WABI in part;

“We are a melting pot of people. And that’s the way it’s supposed to be. And everyone is equal in our society. And I want to make sure that while I’m here in this office, that I fight for those ideals, because these are our kids, these are our members of our community. The people protesting don’t even live here.”
