Located in New Gloucester, Pineland Farms is one of the most unique places in Maine.

According to the Pineland Farms website, besides being a working farm, the place is a business campus, market, educational center, and event venue.  Several years ago, Pineland Farms even became the new home of Unity College.

Beginning in 2025, the farm will become the start and finish line for the world-famous Trek Across Maine charity bicycle ride.

The website explains, in part:

Pineland Farms’ mission is to enrich Maine’s communities by offering immersive educational opportunities related to agriculture and the natural environment, providing time and space for artists and students to develop their creativity, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle through recreation and the outdoors.

A Major Change is Coming to Pineland Farms

According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, Pineland Farms will close its Outdoor and Fitness Center on June 1st.

The reason given for the closure was that the center had reached the end of its useful life.  A social media post explained that it was no longer feasible to maintain the building.

While the building may be closing, the hope is that it will soon have a new use.  The property owner is looking into potential partnerships that could lead to the rebuilding and renovation of the building.

Even though the closure of the building means that there will be no more equipment rentals, Pineland Farms remains dedicated to outdoor recreation.

This includes the addition of another disc golf course.

The post says, in part:

Disc golf will remain an important part of recreation at Pineland, and we’re excited about the rapid growth in that sport. In addition to our three 18-hole courses, a fourth, family-friendly 9-hole course will be added on the Pineland Campus in the near future.
