With the exception of Route 1 during summer tourist season, here in Maine, we rarely have to deal with traffic.

One of the only exceptions to this is the rare occasion when a massively oversized item needs to be moved via truck.  Windmill components and electric transformers, for example.

While these instances are few and far between, there is one scheduled for this week.

According to an article on the WABI website, an enormous load will likely cause traffic issues on Tuesday evening as it makes it way from Hermon to Eastbrook.

The article explains that, starting at 8 PM, the load will be rolling from Coldbrook Road in Hermon all the way to Sugar Hill Road in Eastbrook.

It’s a long haul.  About 49 miles.  And it’s not quick.  The trip is expected to take 4 to 5 hours, with the load moving along at roughly 25 to 30 miles per hour.

The transport, operated by Bay Crane, will be hard to miss.  It’s 141 feet long, 10 feet wide, and weighs in at a hefty 415,000 pounds.

Because of that, drivers should expect slowdowns and extra traffic along the route, including on both highways and secondary roads.

Here’s the full route so you can plan around it if needed:

• Start at 601 Coldbrook Road in Hermon
• Left onto Coldbrook Road
• Left onto Odlin Road
• Right onto Perry Road
• Left onto US-202 East
• Take the I-395 East / US-202 East ramp toward Bangor and Brewer
• Merge onto I-395 East
• Exit onto US-1A East (Wilson Street) and continue following US-1A East
• Left onto ME-179 North (North Street), continue on ME-179 North
• Right onto ME-200 South
• Left onto Molasses Pond Road / Sugar Hill Road
• End at 897 Sugar Hill Road in Franklin (Eastbrook)

If you need to pass through that area n Tuesday, make sure you allow extra time to get to where you're going.
