The 2018 Pine Tree District First Robotics Competition Qualifying event in coming. The event will be on March 23 and 24 at the Colisee in Lewiston.

The event is free and open to all with opening ceremonies on march 23 at 10:30 a.m. and competition continuing until 7 p.m. Opening ceremonies on March 24 will begin at 9 a.m.

First in their title means (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the Pine Tree District Competition will host 40 high school robotics teams from all over New England including Maine. The number of robotic teams in Maine has now grown to 25.

On pinetreedistrict.org they tell us robots seen in this competition are built in 6 weeks using a common kit of parts, and parts meeting FIRST requirements, and can weigh as much as 150 lbs. The competition season consists of a series of district and regional competitions culminating in the Championship in St. Louis, MO in late April.
