According to the Bangor Daily News, law enforcement agencies are searching the Kennebec River for a missing swimmer.

70 year old Georgetown resident John Charles Holmes and a friend took a boat on the river on Saturday afternoon.  Approximately a half mile from the Richmond Town Landing, the pair left the boat to go for a swim.

His friend was able to make it back to the boat, but Holmes was not.  When she saw him struggling to tread water, she called 911.

Holmes was reportedly last seen at approximately 3:30 yesterday (July 25th) afternoon.

A flyover of the river found nothing.  Dive teams are expected to return to the scene Sunday morning.
