For many of us, 2017 brought the end of an era.  It was the death of a little piece of our childhood.  Of course, we're talking about the closing hundreds of brick-and-mortar Toy-R-Us stores.

For those who grew up in the 80s, 90s, or early 00s, Toys-R-Us was like a little bit of Heaven on Earth.  Each store had aisles and aisles of cars, trucks, dolls, action figures, NERF guns, video games, and more.

Sadly, the sheer number of people shopping online brought an end to the toy store chain.

Now, it looks like Toys-R-Us is making a comeback - even here in New England!

According to News Center Maine, WHP Global, who now has a controlling stake in the toy company, has made a deal to create Toys-R-Us stores within existing Macy's stores.  The plan, at this point, is for these Toys-R-Us stores to appear inside 400 Macy's locations across the country by the end of 2022.

WHP Global Chairman and CEO Yehuda Shmidman said of the new deal:

Our partnership with Macy’s marks the greatly anticipated return of Toys 'R' Us in the U.S.A., and changes the retail landscape by combining two beloved retail brands together for consumers across the nation in a completely innovative way. We’re thrilled to be launching this new partnership together with Macy’s.

They have not announced which Macy's stores will be getting the Toys-R-Us locations, yet.  However, we do know that we have two nearby Macy's locations.  There is one at the Maine Mall in South Portland and one at the Mall At Fox Run in Newington (near Portsmouth, NH).

If you don't want to wait for the stores to open, you can shop now at the Toys-R-Us website.
